WHAT WE DO
The vinvolved team for Leicestershire & Rutland raises awareness about youth volunteering; encourages young people aged 16-25 to get positively involved in their community; and works together with groups & organisations to develop the quality and quantity of youth volunteering opportunities and foster youth-led action.
Young People:
· Raising awareness of the benefits of volunteering, especially young people who don’t usually volunteer.
· Signposting young people to relevant opportunities (locally, nationally and internationally).
· Promoting youth-led action and supporting them to gain funding and set up their own youth-led projects.
· Opportunities to try something new; gain new experiences; develop your knowledge & skills; increase your confidence & self-esteem; improve your work & education chances; and to make a real difference in your community.
· Encouragement and support to get positively involved in your community by finding the right opportunity.
· Recognition for what you do through v certificates & an annual celebration event.
· Support to start or get involved in your own youth-led projects, particularly through getting involved in our local Youth Action Teams.
Groups, Organisations & Clubs:
· Helping organisations to develop youth volunteering strategies to create accessible, attractive, innovative opportunities for young people.
· Provide training, support and capacity building to involve young volunteers.
· Improve the quality and quantity of volunteering opportunities available in a local area.
· Develop collaborative partnerships between the public, private and voluntary sectors to promote youth volunteering.
The wider community:
· Sharing learning and promoting best practice.
· Celebrate the achievements of young people and promote the community impact of youth volunteering.
· Make a difference to local communities and the environment through youth-led activity.
Youth Action Teams:
Youth Action Teams are groups of young people between 16-25 years of age who champion volunteering locally. Drawn From all walks of life, these ambassadors encourage their peers to volunteer and advise the vinvolved team and other organisations on youth-led community action. Some of what they will aim to do include:
· Promote the benefits of youth volunteering to other young people and recruit more young people.
· Develop consultation surveys to seek young people’s views about what matters to them and what difference they’d like to make in their communities.
· Identify community issues and develop projects to address them.
· Inspiring organisations to involve more young volunteers and provide training and tips to help them shape their projects.
