‘Foxton Canal Museum’ – Volunteer Assistants/Helpers
The ‘Foxton Canal Museum’ is educational; shows the history; has models, interactive displays, and a wide range of waterway items that tell the story of the Lift, the Locks, the waterways and the people who lived on the canals. Run by ‘Foxton Inclined Plane Trust’ (FIPT), a registered charity of volunteers who have an interest and passion for canals and in particular Foxton's unique Inclined Plane Boat Lift. Volunteers can learn new skills, meet interesting people, provide invaluable help, and have fun.

They are particularly looking for people who are interested in ‘museum’ work, including archiving, cleaning and labelling of exhibits, helping with new displays, etc; working in the retail trade, such as dealing with customer enquiries and in their entrance/shop; like working with computers, including websites and necessary administrative duties; or want to help their fundraising team, but everyone can work together on a wide variety of projects to help improve the museum. Our ‘Youth Action Teams’ are young people between 16-25 years of age from all walks of life who champion volunteering locally. These ambassadors encourage their peers to volunteer; help develop youth-led community action; work alongside the vinvolved team and communities to help change the perception of youth volunteering and to provide accessible, diverse and empowering opportunities for all young people aged 16-25. They meet each other regularly, receive training, gain leadership and other skills, organise and attend a residential, make new friends, have fun, and make a real difference.

People can be involved at the level which fits in with their other commitments and there will be training and support along the way. It’s a great opportunity to play a leading role in the community, be part of a team and improve your CV or your education, employment or life opportunities.

If you’re 16-25 and committed to helping others and making a difference in your community, have enthusiasm, and can join in for at least a few hours a month, ideally for around 6 months to a year, then get in touch, especially if you’re from Blaby, Oadby & Wigston or Rutland.
