‘Sport Relief’ Fun Runs (Blaby & Oadby & Wigston): Sunday 21st March 2010 - Volunteers Volunteers to assist with the general running and support of this major fundraising & participation event and to help ensure the public are well informed and health and safety is adhered, as Registration Volunteers; Parking Marshals; Course Marshals; and Activities Assistants. Induction & support on the day and lunch/refreshments provided.
Where– Leicester Racecourse, Oadby.
When – Sunday 21st March 2010. People required at various points, for varying periods of time to suit availability, between 7am-5pm approx.
‘Family Fitness Fun Day’ (Blaby District): Saturday 10th April 2010 – Volunteer Assistants
Volunteers, especially with a fitness or physical activity interest, to support and assist at this fitness fun day, particularly encouraging and supporting visitors, participants, etc.
Where– Enderby Leisure Centre, Blaby District.
When – Saturday 10th April 2010.
Blaby District Befriending Volunteers:
A very rewarding volunteering opportunity providing one to one support and friendship to older people who are physically frail and isolated, sharing news and having conversation with an elderly, housebound person who would love to see a friendly face. Travelling expenses will be paid.
Where – Kilby, Glen Parva, Glenfield, Huncote, Narborough, Leicester Forest East, Braunstone Town, Enderby, Whetstone and Blaby.
When – Flexible, about an hour a week.
‘Kidz in Kirby’ – Activity Assistance & Mentoring Volunteers ‘Kidz in Kirby’ (KiK) is a community project supported by Leicestershire Police and VABD with the aims of enabling young people (aged 10 to 15 years) to take part in community projects. They are looking for volunteers (16+) to provide support to the young people in their community activities i.e. litter picking; campaigning for improved road safety; painting; gardening; planning meetings or team building activities
Where – Various locations in Kirby Muxloe.
When – various times and days dependant on the project approx 3-4 hrs per month.
‘Kidz in Kirby’ – Website Volunteer(s)
As this community group is wanting to set-up, design and organise their own website, anyone with knowledge and skills in website creation and running are encouraged to get in touch. Volunteer Drivers: Voluntary Action Blaby & District:Blaby District Befriending Volunteers: Can you help people in your community get out and about? On our social car scheme, volunteers use their own cars to take people to local activities and places. You can give as much or as little time as you want and you will receive reimbursement for your mileage. Fosse Meadows Nature Area, Nr Sharnford: Conservation Volunteering (18+)
Conservation tasks with the Blaby District Council Countryside Officer for volunteers (18+ years with own transport or ability to get to and from the Nature area). Wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear. Bring packed lunch.
Where– Fosse Meadows Nature Area, Fosse Way, Near Sharnford, Leicestershire.
When – Every third Sunday of the month until March 2010, 10am-3pm.
Youth Action Team (YAT) – 16-25 year olds from Oadby & Wigston; Blaby; Rutland; Harborough
Our ‘Youth Action Teams’ are young people between 16-25 years of age from all walks of life who champion volunteering locally. These ambassadors encourage their peers to volunteer; help develop youth-led community action; work alongside the vinvolved team and communities to help change the perception of youth volunteering and to provide accessible, diverse and empowering opportunities for all young people aged 16-25. They meet each other regularly, receive training, gain leadership and other skills, organise and attend a residential, make new friends, have fun, and make a real difference.
People can be involved at the level which fits in with their other commitments and there will be training and support along the way. It’s a great opportunity to play a leading role in the community, be part of a team and improve your CV or your education, employment or life opportunities.
Mental Health Befriending Volunteers (Community Action Blaby District)
Befriending Volunteers (18+) with effective communication skills, non-judgemental attitude, an understanding of boundaries and confidentiality and an ability to work on their own initiative are needed to work with people experiencing mental health difficulties to help make a difference to the community and the lives of disadvantaged people, as well as enhancing and developing knowledge and skills.
The role involves meeting and taking part in various activities with a service user on a regular basis, usually for 1 or 2 hours a week; as well as ensuring that they are treated with respect, dignity and confidentiality at all times; work with the Mental Health Befriending Scheme Co-ordinator to ensure that the best and most appropriate service is being offered; monitor & report progress; and convey any concerns. Induction/training, expenses & support will be provided; and a CRB check & references will be carried out.
Where – Lutterworth, Wigston & Oadby areas and Blaby District.
When – Flexible, about 3 hours a week.
