‘Rutland Sailability’ – Volunteer Assistants/Helpers
A sailing club for people with disabilities who would value help to assist their disabled sailors with their sailing activities (e.g. launching boats, access into and out of boats, wheelchair assistance, social contact, having fun, etc). No specific qualifications needed, but helpers need to be able bodied and able to help people with limited mobility. Previous sailing experience may be a benefit but not essential as full training is given and helpers can have the opportunity to learn to sail themselves. Website: www.rutland-sailability.org

When – Generally, Thurs/Sat are general sailing days; Mon/Fri is reserved for Special Needs members who may need additional support.
 
 
Rutland – Home Library Service – Book Delivering Volunteers
Volunteers (18+) to deliver library books to housebound people throughout Rutland. Books are selected by the Librarian and are collected and delivered to peoples’ homes. The old books are picked up and returned to the library. Volunteers (18 years +) need to be reasonably fit as some deliveries can consist of 10-15 books. For rural deliveries, volunteers would need to have their own transport.
 
 
 
Oakham Library – ‘Book Taggers’ Volunteers
Volunteers (16+) to help with the tagging, scanning and programming of books, etc, following the installation of a new automated library book service at Oakham Library. There are over 62,000 books to process so help will be greatly appreciated.

When – Up until the end of September 2010 (but could continue supporting customers once the system is up and running).
 
 
 
Oakham Library – ‘Story-Time’ Support Volunteers
Do you have a few hours once a week to volunteer to support story tellers for pre-school children in Rutland Libraries, help with some of the activities or just be in the background offering general support and making sure everyone is happy?
Where – Oakham Library, Rutland.
When – Usually school term-time but also some activities during the holidays.
 
 
Rutland County Museum – Volunteer Educational Programmer
Have you an understanding of the National Curriculum in schools? Are you interested I the history of Rutland and enjoy working with children? This could be the opportunity for you. Rutland County Museum is looking for someone to develop their education programme. New and fresh ideas for activities to run during the school holidays and developing educational tours of the museum.
Where – Rutland County Museum, Oakham, Rutland – and tours in surrounding areas.

Rutland County Museum – Volunteer Relic Recorder
Volunteers to help archive and record items stored in the museum. Many items are donated and received which need to be properly logged, also existing items, which require cataloguing. Very exciting opportunity for anyone interested in historical artefacts, etc. Basic IT ability would be useful but not essential.
Where – Rutland County Museum, Oakham, Rutland.
When – As negotiated with volunteer, around half a day a week, or more.

Volunteers to help work within a team to design and create new exhibits and update existing ones, maintain and keep exhibits clean and tidy, many of which have an agricultural and rural theme, and to produce labels and displays explaining the exhibits.

Rutland County Museum – Market Research Volunteer
Volunteers to be responsible for distributing assessment forms to visitors and evaluating them, help develop ways of collecting and recording data along with encouraging positive criticism and methods of addressing items raised, and assisting the Museum in providing a fully inclusive and enjoyable experience to its visitors and the community.
Where – Rutland County Museum, Oakham, Rutland.

Rutland County Museum – Volunteer Local Studies Archivist
Are you interested in local history? Are you organised, methodical and happy to work on your own? The museum has a wide variety and comprehensive library of historical information and is looking for volunteer who can index, update and scroll through these documents and books, identify interesting and historic facts and information that can be catalogued for public use.

Rutland County Museum – Volunteer Local History Researcher
Are you interested in local and family history and competent using a computer and the Internet? The museum regularly gets requests for information from individuals about family and local history and are looking for someone who can research and respond to these requests by using an online database, the internet and historical material.

Rutland County Museum – Volunteer’Oakham Castle’ Guides
The splendid Great Hall of Oakham Castle is one of the finest examples of late 12th Century domestic architecture in England. Volunteers wanted to guide vistors through the Castle’s history and unique features, get involved in designing and preparing written material and plaques for the exhibits, etc.
Where – Rutland County Museum/Oakham Castle, Oakham, Rutland.
When – Generally, Tuesday-Friday day; Saturday day.
 
 
Rutland Water Nature Reserve: Ospray Project Volunteers
Rutland Water Nature Reserve, managed by the Wildlife Trust on behalf of Anglian Water, is possibly the best know of the Trust’s reserves and has become one of the most important wildfowl sanctuaries in Great Britain. Volunteers are being sought to assist with the Osprey Project. Volunteering Opportunities between April-Sept 2010 involve monitoring of nests, 24 hour guarding & talking to the many people who visit the Nature Reserve.

‘Big Pink Heart’ – Volunteer Respect Theatre Workshop Facilitator
‘Big Pink Heart’ is looking for a facilitator to help deliver their Respect Theatre Workshops, including in prisons also within the community. The ideal person will have a degree in Drama and will have had some experience in delivering theatre workshops. This role may suit a young graduate who has interest in gaining experience of working with a dynamic organisation that is promoting the meaning of ‘respect’ and encourage dialogue across the generations through fun events for communities and schools.

‘Big Pink Heart’ – Volunteer Respect Theatre Workshop Facilitator (Music)
‘Big Pink Heart’ is looking for a volunteer who is a singer/songwriter and can play an instrument who can be part of helping to facilitate and deliver their Respect Theatre Workshops, including in prisons also within the community to help promote the meaning of ‘respect’ and encourage dialogue across the generations. This role will suit someone who likes to work with others and help encourage those who attend the workshops to put their experiences into the words of a song, whether pop, rap or other!

‘Oakham in Bloom’ – Young People Taster Sessions
‘Oakham in Bloom’ was formed in August 1997. The committee consists of volunteers drawn from the community. It strives to foster the improvement of the environment for people who visit or live in the town. Young people will work closely with experienced gardeners to help develop new beds and areas for planting alongside maintaining current areas. Regular working parties keep all the planted areas in Oakham weed free, watered, fed and tidy. Most activity is in the spring and summer with weekly sessions by arrangement.

Rutland Water Nature Reserve: Conservation Volunteering Opportunities
If you are keen on working outdoors and would like to be involved in conservation work then why not consider helping at the Rutland Water Nature Reserve (Egleton, situated on the East Shore of Rutland Water), including coppicing, woodland management, hedge laying, path clearing, reed-bed management and  pond clearing. Work is carried out in groups with under supervision.

Ryhall United Football Club - Rutland: Volunteering Opportunities:Volunteer Committee members (Treasurer, Secretary & Welfare Officer) and qualified Football Coach/Manager, and assistance with running the Junior FC, dealing with league & FA correspondence, etc, are required. Club can help with FA training courses if interest shown in the football side of the club, training various nights of the week

Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust – ‘Wildlife Watch Group’ for children
At ‘Wildlife Watch’ groups children meet, have fun, and enjoy exploring their environment and discover local wildlife, get stuck into practical activities from environmental artwork and waste recycling, to barn owl surveys, pond dipping and wild flower fun days.
‘Wildlife Watch’ Group Leaders need to be at least 18 years old, take part in training, undergo a CRB check, and are responsible for organising, planning, delivering and advertising their Wildlife Watch group meetings, as well as ensuring the safe running of the meetings.
‘Wildlife Watch’ Helpers who can be 16 years and over assist Group Leaders with activities, as well as helping to ensure the smooth and safe running of meetings.
No expert wildlife knowledge is required, but enjoying working with children, being enthusiastic and concerned about the environment and enjoying being outdoors is important. Website: www.lrwt.org.uk/ww
